Schenectady County has issued a boil water order for the entire Town of Rotterdam as a precautionary measure in response to a water main break.

All town residents should boil water before using it for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, or using it in food preparation.

Here's the statement for Schenectady County:

The Schenectady County Department of Environmental Health has issued a BOIL WATER ORDER for all of the Town of Rotterdam as a precautionary measure in response to a water main break.

All CUSTOMERS IN THE TOWN OF ROTTERDAM HAVE BEEN ORDERED BY SCHENECTADY COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH TO BOIL ALL WATER FOR DRINKING AND CULINARY PURPOSES.

DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one (1) minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water certified for sale by the New York State Department of Health.  Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills most bacteria and other organisms in the water.

Residents will be informed via the media with additional information or when tests confirm that no harmful bacteria are in the system and you no longer need to boil your water.
