State lawmakers in both houses have approved a budget extender which keeps New York's expired budget in force until the end of May and also avoids a government shutdown.
The legislature failed to meet a midnight Friday night deadline to adopt a new state budget.
The extender keeps the current budget spending plan in place, and will allow the state government to continue to operate, and will pay state employees.
By law, lawmakers will not get paid until a new budget is adopted.
