Key Figure in 2005 Kidnap Attempt to be Freed

A very dangerous man.

That's how people are describing John Regan, who admitted trying to kidnap a star cross-country runner at Saratoga Springs High School back in 2005.  He was sentenced to 12 years in prison in New York, and three more in Connecticut for a 1993 incident in that state.  But, because of a loophole, he won't serve any time in Connecticut, and apparently plans to come back to Saratoga County once he's released in late October.

"He has been subject to supervision by the Dept. of Corrections and Community Service," said Saratoga County DA Karen Heggen, "and I have faith in their abilities to closely monitor a person such as he is with the propensities to commit crimes."

Regan admitted trying to shove Lindsey Ferguson into the back of his van, which was later found to contain ropes, a shovel, and tarps.  Police and prosecutors have said they believe Regan had every intention of raping and killing her.

Heggen says Saratoga Springs PD has notified those involved with that initial case of his pending release.

"With the attention to his release, and with the attention to the fact that he'll be residing in this area, it's all important for people to be aware and vigilant regarding him," Heggen said.
