State Lawmakers Call for Full Disclosure on On-Line Political Ads

A number of state lawmakers want to see a measure in the final budget that will prevent anonymous political ads on social media.

"A lot of these ads are graphic ads," said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara (D-Rotterdam).  "They're photos or they're pictures of things that go along with some text."

The measure calls for disclosure at some place on the ad that shows what group or individual paid for the ad, a rule by which political spots on radio and TV have had to adhere to for many years.

Gov. Cuomo has already announced his support for the proposal.
