Over $830,000 Raised in South High Marathon Dance

The South High Marathon Dance wrapped up last night, and the over 800 students and community members raised over $831,000 for organizations and local families in need.

South High Marathon Dance advisor, Tom Mayott, tells News Channel 13 the students themselves select the recipients of the money raised.

"They get a chance to see the recipient's reactions, they hear the recipient's true story, the hardships that they've gone through, and these are people in your own community, and most of us don't know people in our community, in our own neighborhoods, let alone finding out there are people in so much need."

Proceeds from this year's event will benefit 12 organizations and 30 individuals.

In its 40-year history, the Marathon Dance has raised over $7 million for nearly 500 beneficiaries.
