Schenectady seeks Hometown Heroes

Public nominations are currently being accepted to honor veterans and active duty military members in Schenectady.  The Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation and the City of Schenectady's Hometown Heroes Banner Program recognizes active duty military member and veterans, living or deceased.  The Banners will have the service members photo, name and branch of service and will be displayed on light poles in downtown Schenectady from June through November.  

To qualify, honorees must meet the following requirements:

  • One or more of the following: A) A current County resident; B) Born and raised in Schenectady County; C) graduated from one of Schenectady County’s five (5) School Districts.
  • Serving on active duty in the United States Armed Forces or National Guard, OR a military veteran (living or deceased) who has served in the United States Armed Forces or National Guard and has been honorably discharged.

There is no cost to nominate a service member. Nomination Forms may be downloaded from the DSIC website and must be submitted to the DSIC by Friday, April 6, 2018. All qualified nominees will go into a lottery to be selected for a banner; those who are chosen will be notified no later than the week of April 9th.
