Chuck's Blog: End Of Saratoga Gun Show Doesn't Make Us Safer

Some city officials in Saratoga Springs are taking bows for kicking the New Eastcoast Arms Collectors Association out of the city.

This weekend will mark the last NEACA gun show at the City Center as the dealers and their customers are being unceremoniously bounced after decades of impeccable behavior and generating a ton of revenue for the city.

The fact is, the people in charge hate guns and so the gun show, they have determined, must go. At least this time they're being honest about their motives. The first time they tried to kick-out the show, they rolled out a bogus excuse of there being ‘no open dates for it.’

Kelly and I have been to this show. The people buying and selling are not the people we need to be afraid of. Saratoga officials may feel good about themselves for "doing something," but all they have accomplished is disenfranchising and insulting law-abiding citizens.

No one is safer as a result of their shortsighted and partisan ploy.

Oh, and to add insult to injury, those same officials Thursday are announcing a big gun buyback program for June 2nd.

I know I'll feel a lot safer when members of the Bloods, Crips and MS-13 show up at the Unitarian Universalist Church on North Broadway and turn in all their weapons. -Chuck
