The area of the latest homicide in Albany has become a memorial for a man who worked to end gun violence in the city.
Elijah Cancer was shot three times in the torso after police say he and another man attempted to break up a large fight on Teunis Street early Saturday morning.
The man, a 31-year-old, was shot in the arm and transported to Albany Med.
As Albany Police continue their investigation, Spokesman Steve Smith says they cannot do their job alone, and that people in this community should be very angry over the incident.
Smith says their preliminary investigation suggests there was a large fight involving a group of girls, and that the male victims who were shot were likely involved because they were trying to break up the fight.
Elijah was well known in the community as an outreach worker for 518 SNUG, an anti-violence program aimed at reducing gun violence.
Albany Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Albany Police Detective Division.
