Albany Bishop Wants Investigation into Past Sexual Abuse Allegations

Albany Roman Catholic Diocese Bishop Edward Sharfenberger is asking Albany County District Attorney David Soares to investigate how the Albany Diocese handled past allegations of sexual abuse by priests.

State Attorney General Barbara Underwood has subpoenaed all eight Roman Catholic Dioceses in the state as part of her investigation into how New York churches have handled sexual abuse allegations.

The investigation is likely to key on how cases were handled by Bishop Howard Hubbard, who was Albany's Bishop from 1977 to 2014. Sharfenberger succeeded Hubbard.
