Troy is One Step Closer to Becoming a Sanctuary City

Troy is one step closer to becoming a sanctuary city. The City Council's Public Safety Committee voted 2-1 to approve a resolution during its meeting Tuesday night.

The non-binding resolution was authored by Democrat David Bissember, who says he's concerned about what's happening both at the national level and the county level, with the sheriff's department working closely with immigration enforcement.

Council President Carmella Mantello opposes the resolution and says, "to turn around say we're going to be treating illegal immigrants differently is just false."

The proposal now goes to the City Council for a vote Thursday night.
