Troy City Council President Apologizes After DWI Arrest

Troy City Council President Carmella Mantello is apologizing to friends, family, and constituents after her arrest on DWI charges this week.

In a brief statement issued Friday morning, Mantello, a Republican, said "I understand the severity of my actions and take full responsibility."  Mantello, 53, was arrested Wednesday night after State Police received a call from a driver saying he was being followed by someone driving aggressively.

The incident began on I-890 in Schenectady and continued onto the Northway, where both vehicles eventually left the highway at Exit 9 in Clifton Park.  Mantello was eventually pulled over on route 146A several miles west.

Mantello reportedly provided a breath sample which resulted in a .13% blood alcohol content.

She's due back in court in Clifton Park on January 3.

A spokesman for Troy mayor Patrick Madden declined comment on the matter except to say it was a "personal issue" involving Mantello.

Here is Mantello's statement:

"I understand the severity of my actions and take full responsibility. I apologize to my family, friends and constituents and am deeply sorry that I let you down. I expect more from myself. Finally, I would like to personally thank the New York State Troopers for their professionalism in this matter and the service they render everyday to keep our communities safe."
