High winds are expected to be a major issue for all of Upstate New York over the next few days.
Particularly in Western New York, they are expecting hurricane-force winds.
Governor Cuomo spoke in Western New York.
He says the significant amount of wind is not something to be trifled with; 75 MPH winds are something to be taken very seriously, and preparations are already underway.
The Governor is instituting empty tractor trailer and tandem travel bans on several highways in Western New York, including the Thruway from Utica Exit 31 to Exit 61.
Widespread power outages are also possible.
Cuomo has put all utility companies on notice, saying he expects all companies to be staffed, proficient, and ready to respond to these significant storms on a timely basis.
He adds that these companies are regulated by the State Public Service Commission, and have been fined in the past, as well as threatened to have their license revoked, for failure to act in a timely manner.
The Governor also spoke with utility company officials in surrounding states, concerning the possible need for additional teams to be sent if need be.
The High Wind Warning for the Capital Region goes into effect at 7 PM, with 25-40 MPH winds expected, and gusts up to 65 MPH.
