There are now nearly 1,400 confirmed coronavirus cases in New York State. About half of those are in New York City and next is Westchester County with 380 cases. Governor Cuomo says based on projections from experts, the virus infection rate could peak around the 45 day mark. Cuomo says based on the numbers, the hospital system won't be able to handle the projected number of cases unless the spreading is slowed down. He says the state is looking into the hospital system now to see how much more space can be created.
Cuomo says it is possible there will be more closings and restrictions but not yet. He says testing is going very well with thousands being tested across the state. More drive through testing sites like the ones in New Rochelle will open up. They will be coming to Staten Island and Long Island. The governor says the state legislature is expected to pass a paid leave bill shortly to help folks who are out of a job due to coronavirus.
Albany County now has has 25 total cases, that number includes a 7-year-old child who has been diagnosed with the virus. Albany County Executive Dan McCoy says he is withholding the identity of the child's school district for the moment. Meanwhile, the first coronavirus cases have been reported in both Rensselaer and Clinton counties. Watervliet has closed city hall, but city services like sanitation will continue.
