A projected 20% cut in state aid leads to changes in the Schenectady City School District.

At Wednesday night's meeting, school board members approve a first wave of layoffs, including 50 part-time lunch monitors and about 30 para-professionals.

Also approved is a consolidation of school buildings. Acting Superintendent Aaron Bochniak says that this could be just the start of the layoffs.

Estimated budget cuts without state foundation aid in Schenectady is more than $28 million. Layoffs of almost 10% of the district's teachers could happen later this month. Changes approved earlier this week include a switch to remote-learning to start the new school year for grades 7 through 12.
