A new seat belt law is now in effect across the state as of Sunday.

All passengers in the back seat must now buckle up. Governor Cuomo signed the bill into law over the summer. The new law also applies to passengers taking Uber or Lyft. Previously, passengers over 16 years old were not required to wear a belt in the back seat.
