Governor Hochul has ordered flags at all state buildings to be lowered to half-staff in honor of General Colin Powell.

His family announced Monday that he passed away from complications due to COVID-19 at the age of 84. Powell was a four-star general in the U.S. Army and made history as the first African American U.S. Secretary of State when he served under former President George W. Bush from 2001 until 2005. In a statement, the governor said flags would remain lowered until sunset on October 22nd and expressed her condolences to Powell's family.
