Governor Hochul has signed a bill making a significant change to the state's paid family leave policy.

Under the legislation, that benefit will now be offered to people who need to take care of a sibling who has a serious medical condition. The governor says that helping out family is a human right and that employees shouldn't have to worry about losing income if their loved one gets sick and needs assistance. More than 100,000 New Yorkers take paid family leave each year.
