One week after the polls closed on Election Day, the winner in the race for Rensselaer mayor is still unknown.

On Monday, the Rensselaer County Board of Elections opened the 212 absentee ballots received in the race between incumbent Republican Mayor Michael Stammel and his Democratic challenger and former mayor Richard Mooney. Officials say 129 of the ballots were challenged by either candidate and after the remaining 83 were counted, Stammel had an 11-vote lead. The Board of Elections is planning to review the disputed ballots Friday morning.
