In this episode of Upstate Issues, Mark Eagan, President and CEO of the Capital Region Chamber talks about the Chamber’s long range plans and advocacy on issues affecting everyone in the community. Eagan says that while the Chamber has always been there to support local businesses, the real point of having a successful local business community is so that those businesses can support the overall health and happiness of the community. Eagan talks about the concerns the Chamber has over taxes and regulations on businesses in New York. He says the Chamber is also doing a lot to improve workforce development in New York. He notes that part of the “Great Resignation” is coming from individuals who were already reaching retirement age. Eagan sees an opportunity there for people in lower-skilled jobs to get trained and promoted. This is especially important as technology continues to eliminate many jobs that are considered to be low skill.
