NY Supreme Court Strikes Down Redistricting Maps Drawn Up by Democrats

Governor Hochul and state Attorney General Letitia James are planning to appeal a ruling made by a State Supreme Court judge that struck down redistricting maps created by Democrats.

On Thursday, the judge declared the maps for the Congressional, State Senate, and Assembly districts unconstitutional, and claimed the process to craft them was politically biased, faulty and led to maps that were gerrymandered. The Legislature now has until April 11th to redraw the maps and if that deadline isn't met, the state will have to pay an independent expert to create new ones.
