Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie isn't ruling out the possibility of a special legislative session to address bail reform but says there's not enough data available yet to warrant calling lawmakers back to Albany soon.

In Latham on Monday, Heastie said that he does support the idea of providing judges with more training to help educate them about the current bail laws. Albany County District Attorney David Soares and New York City Mayor Eric Adams have called for changes to criminal justice legislation that has been passed by the legislature. Heastie also said he believes high crime rates are a national problem, not just a New York issue.
