A local lawmaker is calling for a hearing to take place in the New York State Senate involving a plan to increase tolls on the New York State Thruway.

State Senator Jim Tedisco is speaking out against a proposal that'd raise the cost of tolls by five-percent for E-ZPass customers in 2024 and also bump up the rate for people who pay their tolls through the mail. Tedicso believes the last thing the state should be doing right now is raising tolls since so many people are already struggling financially. The board of directors of the Thruway Authority approved the plan Monday but a final decision on an increase won't be made for months.
