BABE RUTH: Man Faces Prison for Selling Fake Glove
|
A California man pleaded guilty today (Thursday) to wire fraud in a scheme to sell a baseball glove he said belonged to Babe Ruth for $200,000.
Irving Scheib of Bonsall, California actually bought the vintage glove on eBay back in January for approximately $750.
In Federal District Court in Manhattan, Scheib said, "I sold a baseball glove falsely claiming it was a Babe Ruth glove, and it was not, your honor. I feel horrible about it, but those are the facts."
Scheib also claimed that the Babe gave the glove to his pal, actor Robert Young, in 1944 and it was the husband of Young's granddaughter that was putting the glove on the auction block.
