HOUSTON -- Ninty-three-year-old Elbert Wood came home from a doctor’s appointment Monday morning to find his home burglarized and vandalized with spray paint.
The great-grandfather still managed to have a sense of humor about the crooks.
“They redecorated for me.”
Wood built his northwest Houston home and has lived in it for 55 years.
He pointed to the walls, windows, paintings, carpets and other personal belongings, now all tagged with graffiti.
At his age, he’s heard and seen a lot.
“I never heard of anything like this before.”
He was wounded twice in World War II.
Wood said shrapnel got up in his leg. Doctors were never able to get all the shrapnel out and he was hospitalized for one year. The extent of his injuries earned him a Purple Heart. The former Marine was ready for combat again.
If he’d been home when the crooks broke in, Wood said, “I’d have tried to kill ‘em.”
