You've heard them say that on numerous medical shows.

My wife Nancy and I almost thought ER techs were going to say that about US!

I've mentioned two of our grandsons, Chris who just turned 9, and Zach, who is 4.

The other night we were watching them at our place, and both were riding their bikes up and down the sidewalk, it was JUST starting to get dark, but they both had reflectors.

Let me backtrack a bit.  BOTH boys ride two wheelers, and Zach (again the 4 year old) rides it like a pro. We think one day he may join the Flying Walendas.

So anyway, we're watching them coming down the street, when we see an SUV start to back out of a driveway.....directly in front of them!

The blood drained from our faces, we thought they were going to be ok, but we have to warn them somehow before something tragic happens.

Nancy gives a yell, tough for her since she's a bit of a low talker (but not Seinfield low).  They sort of heard that but needed something more.

My voice, however, they heard, as did the driver.  Both boys and the driver halted right on the spot

I've been accused of having a big voice (as opposed to a big mouth but that's not really inaccurate), which can be REAL loud and REAL intimidating, especially to little kids.

Naturally, it shook both boys up, Chris much more than Zach.  He thought I was yelling at HIM (far from it).

Chris comes running into the house all upset and crying, he felt Popsie (me) was being mean to him.

It took quite a while, but Chris eventually understood why I did what I did.

Zach seemed to understand what happen from the start, but like I said earlier, he has daredevil in him so we have to watch him even more than his big brother.

Going forward, the driver will absolutely check the sidewalk EVERY time.

Right before bedtime, Nancy and I gave thanks for the boys being safe.

We still had a rotten night of sleep.

And people wonder why we both look 20 years older than we really are.

That's just how grandparents roll.
