Activist Looks at Police Reform and Reinvention Collaboratives

Community police

Longtime local activist, Dr. Alice Green is the Executive Director of the Center for Law and Justice, a civil rights organization she founded in 1985. In June of 2020, Governor Cuomo issued an Executive Order requiring police agencies to consult with local community members and develop a plan to reinvent their policing strategies. In this episode of Upstate Issues Dr. Green talks about the efforts police departments around the state have been making in advance of submitting their plans. What are some of components she thinks are essential to making a real difference and will these plans meet the goal of being transformative? Dr. Green also discusses the trust level between police departments and the communities they serve, and talks about moves to augment public safety with other professionals such as social workers and mental health providers.
